Fintech & crypto product design services.
I’m Malvin Yeung, a product designer based in the San Francisco Bay Area with 12 years of experience. I help teams design financial products and complex software—from research and product direction through prototypes, interfaces, and engineering handoff.
Project-based work · Fractional design support · UX audits · Remote-friendly
My portfolio includes work at OKX, Magic Eden, Slingshot, Apple, and Salesforce. Explore the projects below to see the product context and my role.
Fintech & payments product design
For fintech teams launching a new financial product or simplifying an existing account, payment, or Earn experience.
I connect customer needs with business rules and technical constraints, then work through the flows, interface states, and interactions. The focus is on helping people understand what happens to their money and what to do next.
What we can work on
- Journey maps and prioritized user flows
- Interactive prototypes and high-fidelity UI
- Error, empty, loading, and confirmation states
- Reusable components and engineering handoff
Deliverables are agreed to suit the project scope.
Crypto wallet & trading UX
For crypto and Web3 teams building wallet onboarding, asset discovery, order entry, or portfolio experiences.
Trading and wallet interfaces need to explain balances, fees, order details, and transaction states without burying the main task. I bring product-design experience from Slingshot and Magic Eden, alongside hands-on familiarity with trading.
What we can work on
- Wallet onboarding and trading-flow design
- Interaction and motion prototypes
- Portfolio, discovery, and transaction UI
- Design specifications and reusable patterns
Deliverables are agreed to suit the project scope.
UX audits & focused redesigns
For teams that have a live product, a difficult workflow, or a specific journey they want to improve before committing to a larger redesign.
Start with the user task, existing research, and any available product data. I review where the experience becomes unclear, separate observations from hypotheses, and propose changes that can be tested. A redesign is a hypothesis—not a promise of conversion lift.
What we can work on
- A prioritized friction review with rationale
- Annotated flow and interface recommendations
- Prototypes for the agreed priority changes
- A measurement and testing plan
Deliverables are agreed to suit the project scope.
Fractional design & design systems
For startups without a full-time design lead, or product teams that need an experienced partner to help ship and maintain a product.
I can help define what to build, work through the end-to-end experience, and maintain consistency as it evolves. At Slingshot, I was the sole designer for the app’s end-to-end launch and ongoing maintenance. My Apple requirements-app work also covered the full product lifecycle.
What we can work on
- Product direction and scoped design priorities
- End-to-end product flows and prototypes
- Component libraries and interaction patterns
- Engineering collaboration and design iteration
Deliverables are agreed to suit the project scope.
From an unclear problem to a clear design plan.
- Define the problem. Share your product, audience, constraints, and what needs to change. We agree on scope, deliverables, and how to assess progress.
- Explore and test. Use existing research and product data where available, map the flow, and prototype the important decisions before committing to detailed UI.
- Design for delivery. Work through interactions, visual design, states, and reusable components with product and engineering.
- Support the next iteration. Where ongoing support is in scope, refine the experience using implementation feedback and evidence from users.
Questions before we work together.
Can I hire you for a project rather than a full-time role?
Yes. I take on freelance and contract product-design projects, fractional design support, advisory work, and UX audits. I also consider full-time roles. We can scope the engagement around your product, team, and priorities.
What kinds of clients and products are a good fit?
My strongest fit is fintech, payments, crypto, Web3, DeFi, wallets, and trading products. I also work on complex software and internal tools; the Apple requirements app and Facebook help-intake project show that range.
Where are you based, and can we work remotely?
I am based in the San Francisco Bay Area and work with remote teams. Include your location, time zone, and collaboration needs when you get in touch.
What do product-design engagements include?
Depending on scope, the work can include research synthesis, product strategy, user flows, prototyping, interaction and visual design, design systems, experimentation, and engineering handoff. We agree on deliverables before starting.
How do we decide scope, budget, and timing?
Send your product link or brief, the problem to solve, the design support you need, your target timing, and a budget range if you have one. Scope and scheduling depend on those details; I do not publish a fixed project price or delivery promise.
Can you work with our existing product and engineering team?
Yes. I partner with product, engineering, research, data, and business teams. An engagement can focus on a single workflow, a new product launch, or continuing design support rather than replacing your existing team.
Do you guarantee growth or conversion results?
No. I use research, design judgment, prototypes, and experimentation to work toward agreed outcomes. Portfolio figures describe product scale or delivery; they are not guarantees of future results or measurements of design’s isolated contribution.
Have a product challenge in mind?
Tell me what you’re building, what needs to improve, and when you’d like to get started. A product link, scope, team context, and budget range help us assess fit.
